The L&N Bridge, which opened in 1872, is now officially known as the Newport-Southbank Bridge. However, it has been locally nicknamed “The Purple People Bridge” because of its unusual color and dedicated pedestrian usage.

The bridge provides a 1300’ pedestrian link between the north and south shores of the Ohio River, offering stunning panoramas of the old-world, provincial charm of Northern Kentucky and the metropolitan skyline of downtown Cincinnati.

The RiverSpan sculpture event provides valuable financial assistance for the continued safe operation, lighting and maintenance of the bridge through the non-profit, Newport-Southbank Bridge Company, a 501-C3 Corporation.
